NCsoft Q4 2018: Profits Drop 41% as Mobile Drives Revenue

NCsoft reported its Q4 2018 financial results, and while sales stayed mostly steady, profits took a sharp 41% year-over-year hit. The South Korean gaming giant’s revenue picture has shifted dramatically, with mobile games now clearly driving the bus.

The report also reveals increased operating costs tied to a different kind of player: NCsoft’s pro baseball team, the NC Dinos. A signing bonus for a pitcher—possibly ex-MLB’s Drew Rucinski—inflated expenses. It’s a reminder that NCsoft’s business extends beyond gaming, even if games remain the core focus.
