Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox Delay – 10GB RAM Hurdle

Black Myth: Wukong remains absent from Xbox, and Game Science CEO Feng Ji has finally offered a technical explanation for the delay. In a Weibo post celebrating the game’s multiple Steam Award wins—including Game of the Year—Feng Ji wrote that the Xbox Series S’s 10GB of shared memory is a major hurdle. “Without years of optimisation experience, it’s really hard to make work,” he said, pointing to the console’s reduced memory compared to the Series X’s 16GB.

Microsoft’s policy requires feature parity between Series X and Series S releases, complicating ports when the lower-specced machine demands extra work. Other developers have voiced similar frustrations: Larian Studios needed a special exemption to launch Baldur’s Gate 3 on both consoles without co-op on Series S, and the team behind Dune: Awakening cited Series S optimisation as a reason for a PC-first release. Yet high-profile titles like Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones run on the Series S, albeit with reduced settings.

The situation is muddied by conflicting signals. Microsoft previously told press that the Black Myth delay was not due to platform limitations, and reporters from IGN and Forbes cited sources suggesting an exclusivity deal with PlayStation. Meanwhile, the ESRB has rated an Xbox Series X|S version of the game, hinting that a launch may eventually arrive. For now, the ball remains in Microsoft’s court as developers weigh the cost of supporting its entry-level console.
