Black Myth: Zhong Kui Announced – No Gameplay Yet
Game Science, the studio behind Black Myth: Wukong, announced its next title, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Presenter Geoff Keighley revealed that the game stars the titular Taoist god Zhong Kui, a ghost-catching deity who traverses between Hell and Earth. The announcement was a graphical showcase only, as no in-game footage exists yet. Keighley confirmed the project will be a single-player action RPG rooted in ancient Chinese myth and folklore.
Early Development with No Footage
Game Science has been candid about the project’s early stage, describing Black Myth: Zhong Kui as “little more than an empty folder” with hardly any game footage to share. The studio noted that it is still exploring the concrete differences between this title and Black Myth: Wukong. The decision to announce the game now stems from an August 20 tradition, but even Wukong director Yocar has “absolutely no idea” when Zhong Kui will be released.
Platforms and Future Plans
A dedicated Zhong Kui website and Q&A are now live. The Q&A confirms the game will launch on PC and “all mainstream console platforms.” Game Science also reassured fans that “the westward journey won’t end here,” hinting at future Black Myth: Wukong sequels or downloadable content. Regarding why the studio chose a new mythological character over a direct Wukong sequel, Game Science explained it is confident it can make refreshing changes and create new things while addressing past flaws and regrets.
