Marvel Rivals’ executive producer Danny Koo has confirmed that the game’s roster has no theoretical limits—every Marvel hero or villain is fair game, provided they bring something meaningful to the table.

A Universe of Possibilities

Since its launch, Marvel Rivals has carved out a space in the hero-shooter genre, often drawing comparisons to Overwatch. While it borrows heavily from Blizzard’s formula, it adds its own twists and leverages a star-studded Marvel cast—featuring Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Scarlet Witch, and many more—to stand out. The game has been praised for its accessible gameplay, though some critics note it can feel busy and unoriginal at times.

In an interview with VG247 during Gamescom 2024, Koo stated that “no character is off limits” for the team. However, he emphasized that every addition must offer something valuable—either a fresh gameplay mechanic or a distinct personality. This condition means that even fan favorites like Miles Morales could appear, provided the developers can design a compelling kit around them.

Koo also revealed that the game’s narrative designers frequently suggest characters, often proposing obscure picks such as Jeff the Land Shark. Meanwhile, the community has already seen accurate roster leaks, hinting that some future additions may already be known. If Marvel Rivals continues its success, players can expect a diverse and ever-expanding lineup that draws from every corner of the Marvel universe.
